Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) & Self-Care
Welcome
Life can feel overwhelming and it can be hard to know where to start to help calm yourself and comfort your children. This Virtual Social-Emotional Learning / Self-Care Room was designed to support you in identifying different strategies to lower stress, engage your children, and offer supports.
I hope these tools will provide helpful outlets and practices for when life gets tough.
What is SEL?
Social and emotional learning (SEL) is the process through which children and adults understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions.
.................
School Social Workers are advocates who provide a variety of therapeutic services and social-emotional skills to support students in identifying and achieving academic and social-emotional goals. School Social Workers support students in their educational processes by providing students with counseling and crisis intervention, supporting parent and family involvement, and assisting and planning school-based interventions with educators.
During this difficult time, I will continue to help students with emotion regulation, problem solving, developing social skills, finding students' strengths, exploring their growth mindset, learning new strategies, making peer connections, and more! To help reinforce skills at home, I have created this website as a resource library. Please view the tabs to access social-emotional resources, worksheets, books, and more!
YOU'VE GOT THIS!
As School Social Worker, I provide a safe space for students to work through all the emotions they may experience throughout life's challenges. This enables them to remove any social-emotional barriers so they are able to be present, focused, and ready to learn.
My primary goal as a School Social Worker is to foster a safe, supportive, nonjudgmental, and confidential space that encourages personal growth and healing for each of my students.
With over 22 years of experience in the social work field and 8 years in the school setting, I have helped many students improve their social-emotional learning (SEL) with the use of a variety of interventions and play therapies. I employ a person-centered approach to best fit the student’s specific needs.
I am passionate about working with children and teens using a strength-based perspective to improve their social, problem solving, and coping skills and to regulate their emotions. The skills students learn in the SEL classroom will last them a lifetime.
No one should have to struggle alone. I am here to help.
